Explorer Scouts – Building Skills for Life

Explorer Scouts is the section for young people aged 14–18 and offers exciting opportunities for adventure, leadership and personal development. Across our District, Explorer Units provide a supportive environment where young people can challenge themselves, gain independence and prepare for the future.

Explorers enjoy a flexible and adventurous programme that includes outdoor activities, expeditions, volunteering, international experiences and skills development. Whether they are camping, completing expeditions, learning leadership skills or taking part in community projects, Explorers are encouraged to push boundaries and discover their potential.

A key part of Explorer Scouts is personal responsibility and leadership. Young people are given greater freedom to shape their programme and take ownership of activities and events. Many Explorers also volunteer within younger sections, developing valuable communication, teamwork and mentoring skills while supporting the next generation of Scouts.

Explorer Scouts can work towards prestigious awards such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the King’s Scout Award, gaining experiences and qualifications that benefit them in education, employment and everyday life. The section helps young people develop confidence, resilience and practical life skills while making lifelong friendships along the way.
