Christchurch Centenary Celebration

14th July 2007

July Update

Well the time has come after some 15 months of planning, begging, borrowing, sweating and not to mention tears! ..... to announce that the Christchurch Centenary Celebrations Event is now upon us!

Apart from good weather, we now need people! ...... People to help, attend and take part!

Attached is the programmed scheduled of events.

You will see from this that there several opportunities for our young people to help demonstrate their Scouting skills and also to let off some steam and enjoy themselves too!

PLEASE ensure that they ALL get to hear about the Scouting Skill demonstrations, the "Its a Knock Out" and the AFC Bournemouth Skill training too. These items are there for them all to enjoy and all at no charge too!

..... I would ask for people to register on the day from 10:45 to 11:30 at or near the PA system.

I hope that at the end of the day, the majority of you will get to enjoy the sounds of Swing Unlimited, which will close, what I sincerely hope will be a day that will be long remembered for bringing a fantastic district together as one!

This will be my last email to you all for this event, so I would like to say now, a HUGE THANK YOU!!! to all of you who have supported me in doing my part, all of you who have taken on tasks and managed these in between your normal routine and to those who have believed in this and attended the meetings to give input for this day - This could not have happened with out each and everyone of you!

We look forward to seeing you all on the 14th July and what ever happens.....ENJOY THE DAY

June Update

Just over 3 weeks to go before the big event and everything appears to be falling into place. Hold onto your hats and enjoy the ride!

March Update from Des

Thought it was time you had an update on the Christchurch Centenary Celebrations Event, after almost 7 months since my last release, many must be wondering what has happened!

Once again, I can tell you that the district never ceases to amaze me! How did we get this far without conflict, argument or destruction? Simple really, it’s called "teamwork". The team has grown and just before Christmas we welcomed Graham Pedder to give further enhancement, skill and expertise!

Without ALL of the team members, we could not have seen the final event forming, as it has to date. Sponsorship is still coming in and Letters are still going out to secure the final £3,000 to make the event ROCK!

There is so much to look forward to…Perhaps you will take the challenge to become the master of the horned bucker? Can you defy the gravity and lock yourself in the saddle defying only death itself? Can you aim for the target to sober the judge? Who can manage to climb the face of adversity? Maybe you are the sharpest shooter of the west? Or are you are more of a high roller? Or perhaps you are more of a crafty builder? Anyway, who said that getting to the top of the ladder was a breeze, I bet Bob never had this trouble! Whatever you fancy trying your hand at, the Christchurch Centenary Celebration will have something for everyone!

Remember, this event is free to enter and will provide a day to remember! Please ensure that YOU are starting to spread the word! Every group that has given support, ideas and taken part with the discussions and organisation of this Fabulous Event will receive valuable funds. This is a golden opportunity for Groups of the district to show what scouting is about.

NOW is the time to start encouraging your Group Committee Members, Parents and helpers to be involved on the Day! So please don’t wait to be asked, step forward and offer you help – Having got this far, the team needs to know that we have support on the day.

To finish, I want to record my thanks to all who have believed in this Event and the time they have given and continue to give! For those who come for the fun, remember it was made possible by those "giving", it has not just been provided!

Ok lets start from the beginning...........

Below is a link to a flyer which I hope will pass across a vision that is now set to run and YES, this is going to happen, the vision has become reality! Interested? read on....

Lets start with WHO - We need to appoint a focused, highly motivated team that can pull resources and turn this event into something that will be remembered for years to come. we have the District Executive's support and have the backing from the rest of the District Team. All we need now is bodies who "can do", this applies to each and every one on "The List" and all those that you know are involved, but do not receive these details. PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO THOSE IN THIS SITUATION -THANK YOU!

So now we know WHO, lets look at WHAT - The Christchurch Centenary Celebration is a huge, no bigger than that, MASSIVE event that will involve each and every Group and Section in the District. The event will have a Celebrity to open the big day, it will have some major attractions, Lots to see and do, competitions and team events, scouting skills and demonstrations, music and entertainment and will finish with a BBQ to remember!

Well it's wet my appetite, how about WHEN - As mentioned above, this is reality now, not just a vision! The date is set and we are ready to make Christchurch Rock! We have secured Christchurch Quay and have the support of our council. The date is set for Saturday 14th July 2007. There is no excuse, you now have plenty of notice to make sure you're available - Uncle Tom Cobley and ALL!!

So! I've left the HOW to last - Do you blame me? This is the hard part - we need your help! All we ask to start with is your ears. There is to be a meeting on Monday 22nd May 2006 at CSC, starting at 8pm. We would like you to come and find out more and see how you can be involved. This will be a great day for each and every one of us and what's more, ALL of the groups will benefit!

Please can you let us know if you are able to attend the meeting, if needed, we will try and organise a further meeting for those that may not be able to make it on the 22nd.
